Learn to Take Better Birthday Cake Photos
Everyone gets their camera out when it's birthday time- right? It's kind of understood that the traditional birthday cake blowing out is a given photo every year!
Well, why not try to make your photos look better?
Here are some few simple ideas.
1. AUTO MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST OPTION
I told my brother-in-law to take this photo of us on AUTO and it's okay. The pop-up flash went off and my husband is the ONLY one in focus!
Learn how to set your camera on MANUAL to get every one in focus everytime! I would have done my aperature to 3.5 or 2.8 or something to get up in focus better!
2. AN EXTERNAL FLASH MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST OPTION EITHER
Maybe you have an external flash and you want to be fancy.... Your subject might be perfect, but your cake candles are all too exposed... hmm.. Pop up flash is definitely not the way to go either!
3. BE READY AT ANY MOMENT!
I have my camera ready and set while the song is going on, so that I can get the best facial expression!
4. NATURAL LIGHT FROM A WINDOW MIGHT BE A GOOD OPTION
I was bending down below the table to get this shot of my mother-in-law's face.
5. TURN OFF YOUR FLASH AND USE THE NATURAL LIGHT AROUND YOU.. OR JUST THE CANDLES!
I love my son's face here. It was so authentic!
I made sure that my camera was set before taken any photos. I had my ISO to 800 or so and my shutter speed down to 1/100 or lower! I also had my PRIME lens to be down to 1.8 or lower! If you don't have a prime lens- get one!!! You can only do photos like this with one!
Here is another one of my daughter's 5th birthday cake! I love how the candle lights up the surface of the cake!
