Have You Checked Your GPS Lately?

Have you checked your GPS today? No, I'm not talking about the one on your phone. I'm talking about your "God Positioning System" AKA prayer. I know it sounds really cheesy. But let me tell you how this all came to be.

I was getting in the car with my kids this week. I wanted to pray, as I always to with the kids. And my daughter, who's six, asked me, "Mom, why do we ALWAYS pray in the car?"

It just has become such a habit to me that that just always pray in the car with the kids. I don't know, it just helps me to start my day right. It helps me to remember who my days is all about.

But how do I explain that to a 6 year old?

So I pulled out my phone. and asked her, "You remember how mom gets lost ALL the time? You know that I need to use my phone to go EVERYWHERE?"

"Yeah." I heard from the backseat.

"Well," I started again, "What if I just tried to get somewhere new without having my phone's GPS talking to me."

"You would get lost." She knows me too well.

"Yup," I say, "I would get lost going to church."

I could see her wheels turning.

Then I told her, "It's kind of like that with prayer. If you don't check in with God to get the directions for the day, then you are going to feel lost."

I don't know if she got the illustration, but I know that it spoke to my own heart. I know that I made me more intentional about prayer and getting my "orders" everyday for what the Holy Spirit wants to do through me.

So I'll ask you again, "Have you checked your GPS today?"
